Couple reveal very drastic attempt to avoid luggage fees after airline tries to charge them £840

A COUPLE has revealed the very drastic measures they took to avoid having to fork out hundreds of pounds in excess luggage fees on a recent flight.

The pair had packed far too much in their suitcases and claim they were going to be fined more than £800 as a result.

However, instead of paying up, they took matters into their own hands and found a different way to resolve the problem.

Tiktoker Emily Krogsboel (@emilykrogsboel) and her partner claim they were charged $1598 (£840) when their suitcases exceeded the airline’s weight limit.

So, to make their cases lighter, they went away and put on as many layers of clothing as they could, to ensure the excess was taken out of their luggage.

Emily shared a video of the pair getting dressed together in the airport, adding layer after layer to reduce the size of their bags.

She captioned it: “They said we had to pay $1598 for overweight…

“The airport security were not very happy when they saw us the second time.”

The video has been seen more than 700,000 times since it was shared online, with people amazed at the effort the pair went to to dodge the fine.

One wrote: “I just could not do it, I would be SWEATING.”

Another said: “The heatstroke was definitely worth the $1598.”

A third simply described the pair as “Iconic”.

Emily and her partner aren’t the only ones to try the hack, with others also seen piling on clothes to make their suitcases lighter.

However, it doesn’t always go to plan, as Adriana Ocampo found out earlier this year.

She tried to dodge an airline’s baggage charge by wearing almost six kilos of clothing – but got fined anyway.

Adriana flung open her case and piled on as many items of clothing as she possibly could in a bid to swerve a costly fine when she realised airport staff were checking the weight of everyone’s suitcases.

Even after adding five-and-a-half kilos of clothing, she still wasn’t able to remove enough from her bag and eventually conceded defeat.

She claimed to have stumped up a $65 (£35) fine as a result
