However, amidst all this, the Dubliner appeared on Fox News to announce a whopping €940,000 donation to a charity for first responders in New York.

It brings the amount of money donated to the organisation through McGregor and his Proper 12 whiskey company to €3.5 million.

The foundation, called Tunnel To Towers Foundation, revealed the donation on Instagram.

It shared a photo of McGregor alongside its CEO and chairman Frank Siller.

The caption read: “Multi-Weight UFC Champion & Proper No. Twelve Founder Conor McGregor appeared on @foxnews Hannity with Foundation Chairman & CEO Frank Siller to announce a generous donation of $1 million.

“This donation marks $3.7 million donated by Proper No. Twelve to Tunnel to Towers.”

“Thank you @notoriousmma @ProperWhiskey. We could not be more grateful.”

McGregor’s appearance on Fox News attracted headlines for a number of reasons.

The 34-year-old got a little too passionate when praising  9/11 fundraiser Frank Siller and his brother Stephen.

He said: “I’m honoured to be on the show, Frank, I’m honoured to support you. I wanna just stay, your brother Stephen is a f******…”

McGregor quickly covered his mouth and added: “Excuse me. He is a hero, you’re a hero.”

A gasp filled the studio and guests began to laugh at McGregor’s gaffe but soon cheered his donation.

The topic of conversation then turned to what’s next for the Irish former UFC champion.

ON THE WAY MAC

The Irishman is poised for an eventual return to the Octagon for the first time since July 21, against fellow TUF coach Michael Chandler.

McGregor said: “I’m hoping end of summer. We’re working towards late summer.

“I always train, I train everyday but I was filming the show and I’ve got a couple of commitments, this tour as well, this tour around St Patricks week.

“But when this finishes it will be isolation, I’ll go in formulate my camp.”

He is alreayd looking beyond that, however, and used Fox as a platform through which to call out Floyd Mayweather for a rematch.

The two icons met in the boxing ring in 2017, with McGregor claiming an MMA repeat was on the cards but fell through.

McGregor said on Fox News: “That was the original, it was a verbal agreement, I box him, he fights me. But he didn’t honour it.

“He didn’t honoured it yet you know, who knows? I would go against him in another boxing bout. I’d like another crack at it.”
