Conor Gallagher lined up for shock Premier League switch as Chelsea’s rivals eye up £50m transfer

CONOR GALLAGHER could be poised for a shock move away from Chelsea as Tottenham eye a move for the England international, according to reports.

The midfielder, 23, made 45 appearances for the Blues last season, contributing just three goals and one assist.

N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek leaving the club has freed up the possibility of Gallagher starting more games this season.

But he could yet be sent packing too as Chelsea continue their mass clearout.

According to The Telegraph, Spurs are considering an approach for the England man – who has seven caps for his country.

It comes as Ange Postecoglou‘s men fear Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, 27, could be pinched away from them.

Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich are believed to be targeting the Danish star.

Postecoglou, 57, believes Gallagher would be perfectly suited to his high-energy style.

Gallagher, who is valued at around £50m given he has a contract until 2025, held talks with Thomas Tuchel last summer regarding his future at the club.

He was heavily linked with a move to Crystal Palace – where he enjoyed a successful loan spell – but ended up staying in the capital.

If Gallagher was to leave Chelsea this summer, he would join the likes of Kante, Kovacic, Loftus-Cheek, Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy, and Cesar Azpilicueta out the door.

The Blues are looking to balance the books after spending £600million across the last two transfer windows.

But they have still shelled out £84m on two forwards in the shape of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson.

Meanwhile, the addition of Gallagher to Tottenham‘s squad would see him join midfielders Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma, Oliver Skipp, Pape Matar Sarr and Hojbjerg.

Speaking in a press conference earlier this week, Postecoglou said: “In terms of the squad I think it’s fair to say the reason I’m here is because the club are seeking change.

“That usually means a change in personnel. I have to work with the certainties I have and tick off the uncertainties one by one.”
