Common cost-saving error could see drivers slapped with hefty bills & left stranded, warns motoring expert

A MOTORS expert has revealed why its important to replace your car’s battery with the correct type – or suffer “all kinds of problems”.

Mechanic veteran Scotty Kilmer took to social media to show car owners why it really matters what kind of battery you buy for your motor when it goes dead.

Scotty, who has over five decades of experience in the motoring industry, used a Toyota Celica from 1994 as an example – showing that it didn’t matter what kind of battery you used in the retro motor “as long as it fitted inside the car”.

However, he explains that modern vehicles have many different types of batteries – and it’s worth replacing them with the correct, specific type or paying the price.

Scotty said: “For example, if your car came with an absorbed glass mat battery, they’re stronger and they have more power.

“If you replace it with a regular cheap battery, it won’t last as long and you could have all kinds of problems over time.”

Going into more detail, he explained that engineers that designed modern cars “base everything on electronics and computers”.

Scotty said: “The battery is matched to the system.

“You don’t want to replace an absored glass mat battery with a regular flooded one that costs maybe half as much because it won’t work right.

“You need to use the original equipment style.”

This comes as a motoring expert reveals whether you can still claim for pothole-related damage to your car even after the hole has been filled.
