Coca-Cola makes huge change to another iconic fizzy drink after Lilt – and it will taste different

COCA-COLA has made another huge change to one of its fizzy drink favourites.

The fizzy drink giant has changed the recipe of its Sprite lemon and lime original and sugar free drinks.

The flavours also come with new packaging

Coco-Cola confirmed it had added one gram per 100ml more sugar to the original flavour.

For the lighter drink, it has changed up the sweeteners by adding sucralose, but kept it sugar free.

Coca-Cola said the new flavour will still be “crisp” but there will be a bigger difference between the original and sugar-free flavours.

The change is all part of Sprite’s “Heat Happens” marketing campaign, finding fun ways to encourage people to “stay cool” when things get heated.

All cans and bottles will be made with the new recipe from now on.

Sprite comes in 330ml cans and then 450ml and 2-litre bottles.

On top of that Coca-Cola has also unveiled new packaging for the drink.

The brand has updated the text with new, black and white font in a bid to make the product look “refreshed and crisp”.

At the time of writing an eight-pack of cans will cost you £3 from Sainsbury’s, while a 500ml bottle will set you back £1.50 at Tesco.

Of course, do shop around for the best deals – often supermarkets have discounts on multipacks and larger bottles.

Sara Porter, brand manager at Sprite, said: “We know that an ice-cold Sprite is the perfect antidote when things get heated so we’re delighted to launch a new recipe which is more refreshing and flavoursome than ever before.”

Coca-Cola has been making changes to other fizzy drinks recently.

Lilt lovers were left bitterly disappointed to discover that the iconic fizzy drink is being discontinued after 50 years.

The owners of the tropical tipple made the announcement on February 13, 2023.

The pineapple and grapefruit fizzy drink still exists, but has been re-branded as a new Fanta flavour by the Coca-Cola Company.

However, Fanta, also owned by Coca-Cola has launched a new flavour in time for summer.

But shoppers were left divided over the new drink – Fanta Zero Watermelon.

Shoppers can buy the drinks at Tesco and smaller retailers including One Stop, Budgens and Londis.

It’s the first time you can buy the fruit flavour drink here in the UK.

The changes come after Coca-Cola warned fans that they can expect higher prices this year.

Despite bumper results, James Quincey, Coca-Cola chief executive, said: “There will be price increases across the world in 2023.”

The Diet Coke maker, which has hired Kate Moss to front its campaigns, revealed that in Europe prices had increased by 15 per cent in the three months to the end of December compared to the previous year.

Overall sales grew by 7 per cent to £8.2billion.
