A CLASSIC Ford Escort RS2000 Custom from a private collection is up for sale – and the price isn’t as wallet-busting as you might think.

The 1980 Ford Escort RS2000, with just 765 miles on the clock, is going under the hammer with a price guide of £25,000 to £30,000.

This particular RS2000 model has had six keepers from new, and the vendor claims it underwent a high-quality restoration in 2016.

The 1980 Ford Escort RS2000 is finished in Signal Yellow and is complemented by black interior trim and a shiny set of period-correct RS alloy wheels.

The seller has owned the classic Ford for the last seven years – and says that the two-door bodywork, paintwork and upholstery are in “excellent” condition.

Hampson Auctions explained: “Ford’s long-awaited MKII RS2000 was launched at the 1975 Earls Court show.

“Based on the two-door saloon, it was the most luxurious of the sporting Escorts of the time and was powered by an uprated version of the 2.0-litre SOHC Pinto unit employed in the Capri, Cortina and Granada – a four-into-two exhaust manifold coupled to a big bore exhaust system raising its output to 110bhp.

“This was sufficient to help sprint the Escort to 60mph in 8.5 secs and on to a top speed of almost 110mph. The foam-filled plastic snout and flexible rear spoiler were said to give a significant reduction in drag.”

The Custom model features a few extras over the standard car, including fishnet headrests on Recaro seats, full door cards, clock, centre console, 6Jx13in RS alloy wheels, boot carpet, remote-control driver’s door mirror, black rear body panel.

The auction car comes with a selection of invoices, photos of the restoration and an old MOT dating from the 80s.

The Hampson Auctions event takes place on May 20.

This comes after a classic Ford Sierra RS Cosworth kept by the same owner for the past 35 years is now up for auction – and set to go for a fortune.

Plus, a classic Mini tucked away in a dusty garage for 33 years has been sold for an eye-watering amount at auction.
