Able to clock speeds of 78mph – the iconic car was painted burgundy with a stylish silver roof following a thorough renovation before it went under the hammer.
Historic Auctioneers sold the car at Ascot, Berkshire for £11,500 yesterday.
The buyer also had to pay £1,380 in costs.
The model was a roaring success for Ford – selling more than a million units before production of the motor halted in 1967.
Ford Anglia was then replaced by Ford Escort.
Harry Potter nuts will certainly be familiar with the family car as a similar vehicle – which was able to fly – was owned by the Weasleys.
In one memorable scene, Ron and Harry flew back to Hogwarts in the motor after the gate to Platform nine and three quarters was sealed by house-elf Dobby.
The auctioneers said: “The Anglia was an outstanding success for Ford, selling more than a million units until production ended in 1967.
“It certainly evokes memories in men of a certain age.
“Supplied with a V5C registration document, showing four former keepers and offered for sale without reserve, this Ford Anglia 997 is sure to appeal to classic Ford collectors.”
