CHINESE highways have become real-life Rainbow Roads as the country is testing a unique tactic to stop drivers from falling asleep at the wheel.
In a bid to improve road safety and prevent accidents, China has installed giant colourful laser beams along its main highways.

A video shot on the Qingdao-Yinchuan Expressway shows the incredible moment a motorist drives as the bright lights flash across the night sky.
“Lasers being used to prevent drivers from falling asleep on a Chinese highway,” wrote user Science Girl on her X profile.
The lights are reportedly designed to combat fatigue of the driver.
The clip shows vibrant laser beams hovering over the vehicles as they drive along Chinese highway.
The man behind the steering wheel who captured the dazzling lights has said that they made him feel revitalised and reduced his exhaustion during a prolonged night drive.
Since being shared online, the video has accumulated a whopping 63 million views with people’s opinions divided.
While some drivers have praised the innovative approach, others have raised their concerns over road safety.
One user wrote: ” Nice laser show. Night highway entertainment.”
Another one added: “I would drive faster thinking I’m on a Rainbow road.”
But others have called out the shortcomings of such an idea.
One person said: “Who’s genius idea is it to blind the drivers? Congrats, those who aren’t sleepy are now disoriented.”
“I might just be blinded by the light and be worse,” commenced another person.
“That is disorienting. I have driven a manual all my life (still have my 2005 BMW M3) and that will cause more accidents than what they are intended to solve,” added one commenter.
