Chelsea star offered new contract but WON’T sign on dotted line until he’s had talks with Pochettino

CHELSEA starlet Levi Colwill wants to speak to Mauricio Pochettino before committing to a new deal, according to reports.

The highly-rated defender has two years remaining on his current Blues deal.

Colwill, 20, spent last season on loan at Brighton, and the Seagulls have had two permanent bids rejected by the West Londoners.

Chelsea have tabled a new long-term contract offer to the centre-back.

But according to the Standard, the Cobham academy graduate will require assurances over his game time from his new boss.

Pochettino is believed to be a huge fan of Colwill.

But the January arrival of Benoit Badiashile, like Colwill a left-footed centre-back, could block the England youth international’s route to first team football.

Manchester City and Liverpool are believed to be among the clubs interested in signing Colwill, should he become available.

In addition to Badiashile, he is set to compete with Thiago Silva and Wesley Fofana for first team football, should he stay at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino, 51, is set to take his first training session as Chelsea boss on Monday.

But Colwill won’t be there, as he is currently at the Under-21 European Championship with England.

He impressed in his side’s first two games, helping them to clean sheets against Czech Republic and Israel.

After being rested for the final group game against Germany, he is set to return to action tomorrow when Lee Carsley’s young Lions take on Portugal in the quarter-finals.
