Jurgen Klopp’s club had agreed a fee of £110m for the Ecuadorian star as Mauricio Pochettino looked to have missed out on his top target.

The Liverpool boss confirmed that a deal had been agreed to bring the star to Anfield for a record Premier League transfer fee.

But a deal started to stall as it was claimed that Caicedo was having second thoughts about the move.

Now it has emerged that the South American rejected the deal as he had his heart set on moving to Chelsea.

A wide-range of reports then claimed that the West London giants were preparing another offer to top Liverpool’s to try and get their man.

Now SPORT1 reporter Patrick Berger and Nathan Gissing of the CFC Newspage have claimed that a fresh bid of £115m has been tabled.

Caicedo has taken the Premier League by storm since stepping into the Brighton set-up following a £5m move from Independiente del Valle in his homeland two years ago.

Under current manager Roberto De Zerbi his development has continued at a rapid pace, with Brighton continuing to march up the table.

Chelsea desperately need new midfielders following the exits of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount and N’Golo Kante this summer.

The Reds also need reinforcements to the midfield, having lost James Milner, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson, while only signing Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Chelsea are thought to have identified PSG’s Marco Veratti as an alternative should they miss out on the Caicedo.

To add more spice to the competition between the two clubs for Caicedo, they both face each other for their opening games of the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
