Check out the top five most POWERFUL electric cars in the world – the numbers are eye-watering

ONE OF the attractions of EVs has always been that they provide instant acceleration, with no annoying lag as you wait for the turbos to kick in.

The power and torque figures that come with even regular family-focused electric cars are very impressive, while further up the ranks you’ll find mind-blowing EV tech that provides almost ridiculous levels of performance.

In fact, some battery-powered hypercars are capable of completing the 0-62mph sprint in under two seconds.

Autocar magazine has compiled a list of the most powerful electric cars on the planet. Read on to see the top five…

Most powerful EVs

1. LOTUS EVIJA – 2011bhp

Lotus Evija packs a real punch

Lotus claims that its first-ever EV will produce 2011bhp, which easily puts it as the most powerful road car seen so far.

0-62mph is claimed to be well under the 2.0sec mark.

Each wheel includes a 503bhp motor to help with overall agility.

Weight is a consideration and, at 1700kg isn’t a lightweight, although it still manages a range in excess of 200 miles.

2. Aspark Owl – 1985bhp

The Adspak Owl is a pricey addition to any garage

The Aspak Owl is the runner-up here, but still puts out a mammoth 1985bhp.

It also has four electric motors that spin at up to 15,000rpm and also generate 1475lb ft of torque.

The 0-60mph sprint takes 1.72sec which makes the Japanese machine the fastest-accelerating production car in the world, with a claimed top speed of 245mph.

It costs £2.5 million and just 50 examples will be built.

3. Rimac Nevera – 1887bhp

Rimac’s rise to prominence has been meteoric

Rimac has been a much celebrated success story and already has ties with the likes of Porsche and Bugatti.

The 1887bhp Nevera offers is a carbonfibre tech-fest, featuring four motors that deliver torque-vectoring and stability control functions

The two-seater can shoot from 0-62mph in just 1.85sec and on to a top speed of 258mph.

It delivers a claimed range of 340 miles, and Rimac plans to build 150 examples of the Nevera, each with a starting price of around £1.8 million.

4. Pininfarina Battista – 1876bhp

The Battista has a menacing look out on the road

Pininfarina has designed some of the most beautiful cars ever made

It’s not strictly the company’s own design, however,  – underneath the Battista’s carbonfibre bodywork you’ll find a Rimac Nevera.

There’s a huge 1876bhp on offer and the Pininfarina is positioned as a slightly softer GT car with a 311-mile range.

Don’t think for a second it sacrifices any pace – with 0-62mph in under two seconds and a 217mph top speed.

5. Lucid Air – 1096bhp

Smooth-riding and super quick: the Lucid AirReuters

The Lucid brand offers up its bold Air Dream Edition executive saloon, which manages the 0-60mph dash in 2.4sec.
