Casemiro highlights little-known Man Utd cheat code from Solskjaer days that can help get them firing again

CASEMIRO has praised Manchester United set piece coach Eric Ramsay – who was hired under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Red Devils are struggling to score from open play this season, with most goals coming from dead ball situations.

Highly regarded coach Eric Ramsay has been at United for a year and a half

United hired set- piece specialist Ramsay from Chelsea in 2021, to help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his reign as manager.

Solskjaer praised him for being “fresh, young and innovative” when he first arrived.

Ramsay, 31, has been invaluable to manager Erik ten Hag since the Dutchman’s arrival last summer and has been dubbed the club’s cheat code.

He is in charge of making the most of free kicks and corners at Carrington and his work has had an impact on Casemiro this season.

The Brazilian has bagged four goals in 11 appearances, most of which have come from set plays.

Scott McTominay’s dramatic last gasp winner against Brentford also came from getting on the end of Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick.

Speaking to the United Review, Casemiro said: “There’s no doubt that this is something we’ve been working on a lot.

“Eric Ramsay works hard on dead-ball situations, and he’s at the club for this very reason.

“He deserves credit for the work he’s done, indicating to us where we can hurt them the most.

“I think that the coaching staff have played a big role in this regard.”

Part of the issues this season is the club’s misfiring attack with United finding the back of net just 11 times so far in the Premier League this term.

Their top goalscorers are midfielder McTominay, who has three to his name, and Fernandes with two.

The rest of their strikes come from unlikely sources, such as Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Diogo Dalot, Casemiro, Hannibal Mejbri and Christian Eriksen.

Therefore, goals from set-pieces have become more crucial than ever.

First team coach Ramsay left his dual-role in the Welsh national set-up just six months after he took the position, to focus on demands in Manchester.

United sit eighth in the table, having lost five of their opening ten fixtures.
