The step-by-step process will not only ensure the optimal health of your car’s battery but will also keep you from getting stranded in the coldTikTok/trafford_car_recovery

Marcus, who goes by the name Trafford Car Recovery on TikTok, revealed the full process in a social media video.

The technician first warns that an average car battery runs well for about five years – and anything post that period might need replacement.

It is not always necessary to replace the battery, but it is always worth an inspection so that the car does not break down in the middle of nowhere – especially in the winter.

For the second tip, Marcus suggests cleaning the battery terminals.

He says that too often batteries stop working or work poorly due to corrosion at the ends.

To avoid this, one can a mixture of baking soda and lukewarm water to clean the end bits.

This will ensure efficient performance from the battery throughout, Marcus says.

The third step, according to the car technician, is making sure the battery is charged properly at all times.

According to him, a fully charged battery can withstand cold better.

He suggests regularly taking out the car for short drives, or firing up the engine at least for a few minutes to charge the car battery.

A battery charger can also be used if the car is not taken out regularly for drives.

In step four, Marcus advises insulating the car’s battery properly to protect it from extreme cold.

Battery blankets available online can do the job just fine – doing so will ensure the battery functions properly at all times.

Step five is about parking the car inside a garage during freezing temperatures.

It ensures the battery does not lose all its charge when the temperature drops below zero.

The sixth step for Marcus’ car maintenance guide advises car owners to take out their motors for a spin frequently – and drive them for longer periods.

According to him, shorter drives don’t fully charge the battery – and longer drives better protect both the car’s engine as well as the battery.

The final step in the technician’s guide is to keep monitoring the battery’s fluid level from time to time.

If the level drops below the required point, it can be topped up using distilled water.

As the winter season is approaching, many car batteries will need proper care to keep running.

Following Marcus’ 7-step guide will not only ensure the optimal health of your car’s battery but will also keep you from getting stranded in the cold, in case your car breaks down due to a faulty battery.

The average cost of replacing a faulty battery in the UK can be anywhere between £100 to £300, depending on the condition and car’s model.

Taking proper care and doing frequent checks can save a lot of money this winter.
