Car dealer gets new lease of life after closing it’s doors – as major firm moves in to flog family-favourite motors

A CAR dealer has gotten a new lease of life after closing it’s doors – as a major firm moves in to flog the family-favourite motors.

Much-loved Purbeck Motors, in Wareham, Dorset, decided to shut up shop and stop flogging vehicles after being founded in 1950.

But the dealership, which has been run by the same family since it opened, has since struck a deal with London-based company SsangYong Motors UK.

Specialising in SUV’s and 4X4s, the number one importer of cars from Korea to the UK has now decided to team up Purbeck and revamp their showroom.

Adding “high-quality sales and aftersales facilities” to the current garage means a refreshment area is now available for drivers, as well as free WiFi.

Kevin Griffin, managing director at SsangYong Motors UK, said customers will continue to be taken care of at Purbeck despite the change over.

He said: “We are very happy that Purbeck Motors are joining our franchise.

“With extensive knowledge, excellent motor industry experience, and a strong customer-centric ethic, we know that customers will be taken care of at Purbeck.

“We are very much looking forward to working with the Purbeck team, and we welcome them on board.”

Richard Custard, general manager of Purbeck Motors, told how it was a “fantastic opportunity” for the small business.

He said: “Our partnership with SsangYong is a fantastic opportunity and one that we really want to make the most of with the brand.

“Our customers and their needs are paramount to everything we do, and we are excited to be able to offer quality, reliable SsangYong vehicles and parts to our customers.

“We join at an exciting time, just as the brand launches a facelift Musso, Rexton and Tivoli, as well as the brand-new Torres early next year.

“We look forward to welcoming our customers into the showroom, where they can experience the vehicles for themselves and browse the wonderful offers that we have available.”

It comes after a major car dealership has stopped selling ALL new motors and closed down three popular shops blaming “inevitable change”.

Underwoods Motoring, which has locations across Essex and Suffolk, will now only sell used cars and provide garage services, the firm announced.

The car dealer, which began trading in 1981, cited a number of changes with its manufacturer partners.
