Royally in fashion. Camilla Parker-Bowles’ style. The duchess married into the royal family in 2005, but she’s been serving up remarkable fashion looks even before then.
The Duchess of Cornwall married Prince Charles of Wales on April 9, 2005. The 71-year-old is the oldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and the father of Prince Harry and Prince William. Both the duke and duchess were married before: Camilla, to British army officer Andrew Parker Bowles, and Charles to the late Princess Diana.
Over the course of her 14 years on the throne, Bowles has attended countless weddings and royal engagements. Nevertheless, she always keeps followers guessing with new and exciting ensembles. A few notable fashion moments of hers include the weddings of Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, along with her husband’s 70th birthday celebration at Buckingham Palace.
Besides her affinity for bright colors, unique patterns and coat dresses, Bowles is always sporting an accessory. For example, hats have seemingly become one of her signature staples. She loves to match them to her outfits and even wore one on her wedding day! In addition to her impressive collection of stylish toppers, she’s almost always wearing jewelry — specifically, her signature pearl necklaces.
In July 2022, Camilla made her debut on the cover of British Vogue, rocking several stunning looks from her own wardrobe for the shoot. For one portrait, the London native wore a blue printed day dress from designer Fiona Clare while another snap featured a cobalt blue evening gown from Bruce Oldfield.
The philanthropist revealed to the publication that she works closely with her stylist, Jacqui Meakin, for the right looks. Meakin also dressed Queen Elizabeth, who, upon her September 2022 death, passed down the throne to not just Charles, but Camilla, granting the duchess the title of Queen Consort.
The late monarch declared in a February 2022 statement that she hoped Camilla would reign alongside Charles once he took the throne. “When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me,” Elizabeth noted while marking 70 years of service to the Commonwealth. “And it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”
The Prince of Wales and his spouse celebrated the honor soon after. “On this historic day, my wife and I join you all in congratulating Her Majesty The Queen on the remarkable achievement of serving this nation, the Realms and Commonwealth for seventy years,” the couple gushed in a joint statement. “The Queen’s devotion to the welfare of all her people inspires still greater admiration with each passing year.”
