Play was stopped to allow the individual time to recover as he was stretchered to an ambulance, reports ESPN writer Paolo Uggetti.
The PGA Tour discussed resuming play with players, some of whom were not keen to continue.
Amateur Lukas Nelson, who was playing in the group in which the caddie fell ill, revealed he was “doing better” after receiving medical attention.
The caddie was carrying clubs in a group containing Nelson and Geoff Couch as amateurs, and Max McGreevy and Beau Hossler as the pros. They were just over halfway through their round.
McGreevy said to ESPN that the caddie “collapsed in the middle of the fairway and they attempted to get his bag off him quickly so they could try CPR.”
Gareth Bale is making his PGA Tour debut at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am – less than a month after retiring from football.
The Wales and Real Madrid legend, 33, recovered from the bunker to par the first hole of the tournament.
Smiling Bale looked a world away from the stressful injuries and World Cup disappointment that marred his final months in the beautiful game.
Now, though, the two-handicapper is looking relaxed as he takes on world class golfers in the USA.
The Pebble Beach event is held on three separate courses – starting on Thursday at Spyglass Hill.
