BRUNO FERNANDES has become Manchester United’s all-time leading goalscorer from the penalty spot.

The Portuguese, 29, was in action against Everton in the Premier League this afternoon.

When Alejandro Garnacho was brought down by James Tarkowski in the box, Fernandes was gifted a golden opportunity to hand his side an 11th minute lead.

The Red Devils skipper made no mistake from 12 yards, sending the ball low to Jordan Pickford‘s left.

Fernandes’ successful spot kick was his 29th for Man Utd.

He has only missed four during his time at United, giving him an 88.9 per cent conversion rate.

Ruud van Nistelrooy previously held the record, having scored 28 penalties out of 34 attempts.

One of his six misses famously came against Arsenal in 2003, with Martin Keown subsequently jumping on him in celebration.

Fernandes had the opportunity to extend his lead later in the first half when Ben Godfrey fouled Garnacho, but deferred responsibilities to Marcus Rashford.

Despite being a different taker, Rashford provided the same outcome by slotting the spot kick beyond Pickford.

Fernandes is now Man Utd’s top penalty scorer, but he has more work to do to become their top spot kick taker in the Premier League.

He has converted 17 of 21 Prem penalties.

Wayne Rooney is ahead of him, having scored 20 out of 28.

Van Nistelrooy also has more, scoring 18 out of 22 in the top flight.

Below Fernandes are Cristiano Ronaldo and Eric Cantona, who both scored 14 of 16 Premier League penalties.

Rashford is then next up, having scored his eighth today in 10 attempts.

Denis Irwin and Paul Pogba both scored seven apiece, although the former managed the feat in nine attempts while the latter took 11.

Robin van Persie bagged six of eight, while Louis Saha boasts a 100 per cent record with four out of four.

Also as per Opta, Garnacho became the first Man Utd star to win two penalties in the same Premier League game.

Today’s game also marks the first occasion that the Red Devils have had more than one penalty scorer in a Prem match.
