Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andre Braugher died this week at the age of 61 following a short battle with lung cancer, it has been confirmed.
Braugher’s publicist confirmed the sad news to Variety.
The publication reports that it was only recently that the actor, who died on December 11, was diagnosed with lung cancer.

According to the Mayo Clinic, “lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide,” with symptoms including a persistent cough, chest pain and shortness of breath.
It can also occur in people who have never smoked.
On Tuesday, Braugher’s longtime publicist Jennifer Allen confirmed to Variety that Braugher had died aged 61.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine stars Melissa Fumero and Stephanie Beatriz led tributes to their late co-star.
“I will remember all the advice you gave me. I will remember all the times we laughed because your laugh was one of the all time greatest laughs to have ever existed,” Fumero wrote.

“I will remember the deep love and loyalty you had for your family. I will remember it every time I ask work to make time for me to be with my family.
“I will remember how you sent me pictures of Fall trees in NJ because you knew how much I missed that time of year back east. I will remember you calling me Melly Fumé. I will remember so much. I really thought I’d see you again.”
Meanwhile, Beatriz – who played Rosa Diaz on the show – shared a clip from Brooklyn Nine-Nine to her Instagram, alongside the caption: “Andre. ❤️”
Terry Crews began his message with a statement of disbelief.
“Can’t believe you’re gone so soon. I’m honoured to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent. This hurts,” Crews said.
“You left us too soon. You taught me so much. I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you,” he continued.
“Thank you for your wisdom, your advice, your kindness and your friendship. Deepest condolences to your wife and family in this difficult time. You showed me what a life well lived looks like.
“Rest In Peace, Andre. I love you, man.”
