Britney Spears lashes ‘false and defamatory’ report about alleged drug use as ex Kevin Federline walks back claims

Britney Spears is not staying silent.

The 41-year-old Toxic singer has slammed a report published over the weekend alleging her family is concerned over ‘drug use’, issuing a denial of the claims to her 42.1 million Instagram followers.

“The fact that people are claiming things that are not true is so sad … This may not even be them saying such things because it doesn’t make any sense to me for them to be saying that …”, Spears’ lengthy statement began.

The singer addressed her two sons with ex Kevin Federline in the post, saying, “I tried so hard to make things nice for you and it was never good enough.”

She continued: “So you guys go behind my back and talk about me … it breaks my heart and the news is so low … l’ve always felt like the news bullies me … It’s sad because everyone sits back as if that’s ok to make up lies to that extent … Why am I told I have to sit back and rise above ??? When they all go so low ???

“Hopefully it is just the news being hateful and Kevin nor Preston said any of those things either way I will be fine working out to Throb !!!”

Spears’ statement comes as Page Six reports her attorney Matthew Rosengart has sent a legal letter to the Daily Mail, which published the report he describes as “false and defamatory”, on Sunday.

In the letter, per the publication, Rosengart reportedly demands an internal investigation take place surrounding the ‘exploitation’ of Spears’ two sons.

”The Daily Mail … posted a story yesterday containing numerous false and defamatory fabrications concerning my client Britney Spears that are attributed to Kevin Federline and his children, in particular regarding ‘crystal meth,'” Rosengart’s letter, according to Page Six, which claims to have seen it, begins.

Rosengart’s letter also acknowledges Federline, who Spears was married to between 2004 and 2007, also claimed the story was false, despite being named as one of the sources.

Federline claimed to TMZ on Sunday, one day after the report was published, that it was a report comprised of “fabricate[d] lies”, and that “it saddens our family” the “heartache our family has endured” and “the trauma of our minor children” were published.

Federline, who has worked on several projects with the journalist who published the report, alleged they had “lied” and “fabricated” his quotes in the “distressing” report.

He also claimed he had “severed ties” with the journalist in March for unspecified reasons. He then alleged they had been “harassing him”.

“[Their] lies and attempts to exploit minors is click bait and another repulsive example of where, unfortunately, certain journalism has sunk today,” he said to TMZ and also on his Instagram Story.

The journalist, per Page Six, said in part: ”There are 12 days filming with Federline, his wife, his family and others. All – By his request.”

They claimed that of the footage they allegedly documented, only a “small percentage” “has been released and made headlines”.

Rosengart’s letter, per Page Six, further claimed: “I have separately learnt that on several occasions, [the journalist] sought to contact Britney under false pretenses, again her minor children, which is exploitative, harassing, and outrageous.”

”And moreover, Britney’s representatives were never contacted prior to the publication of the story, further demonstrating actual malice and reckless disregard for the truth,” he claimed.

“Britney is indeed a public figure, but this conduct is beyond the pale and completely unacceptable. It is shoddy even by today’s standards of ‘journalism’ and the unfair scrutiny she has faced,” Rosengart concluded.

He also said he would “follow up separately”, however, asked the outlet to “please confirm” they would “immediately delete and retract that false and defamatory story and conduct an internal investigation regarding this matter and the abuse of Britney and her children.”

The article is still live on the website at the time of publishing.

Spears’ father Jamie Spears, 70, in the report was also quoted as saying he feared she was heading down the same road as Amy Winehouse, who died in 2011 aged 27 of alcohol poisoning.

The report, published three weeks after a controversial unauthorised documentary about Spears was aired, also alleged Spears’ sons had seen drugs delivered to their mother’s home.

In May, it was reported Spears had given her permission for her sons to move to Hawaii with Federline, after he reportedly threatened to take her to court.

Spears, meanwhile, was freed from her conservatorship, which controlled almost evert aspect of her life for more than a decade, in November 2021. During her legal battle for the conservatorship to come to an end, she accused her father of abuse, which he has strenuously denied.

She’s now married to Sam Asghari, 29, with the couple celebrating their first wedding anniversary this week.
