Britney Spears announces ‘brutally honest’ memoir’s release date despite rumoured legal threats

Britney Spears is finally telling her own story in her own words.

Almost two years after the 41-year-old pop icon was freed from her 13-year conservatorship, Spears’ memoir The Woman in Me will hit shelves worldwide on October 24, according to People.

“Britney’s compelling testimony in open court shook the world, changed laws, and showed her inspiring strength and bravery,” Jennifer Bergstrom, who is the senior vice president and publisher of publishing house Gallery Books, told the outlet overnight.

“I have no doubt her memoir will have a similar impact — and will be the publishing event of the year. We couldn’t be more proud to help her share her story at last,” Bergstrom continued.

The memoir had been rumoured to have been in the works following Spears’ court victory on November 21, 2021, when a Los Angeles judge freed her from a restrictive conservatorship after she delivered a fervent public testimony in-person in June 2021.

It’s billed to reveal ”for the first time her incredible journey [and] strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history,” according to a press release from the publishing house.

The Woman in Me also promises to “[illuminate] the enduring power of music and love – and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms.”

It’s ”a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope,” the press release says.

Spears’ announcement, via the publishing house, comes two months after sources claimed her “brutally honest” autobiography had been delayed amid “legal concerns” over its content.

According to a May report in The US Sun, Simon & Schuster (the parent company of Gallery Books) received “strongly worded legal letters” from A-listers who are afraid of the Toxic singer’s tell-all.

“Britney is brutally honest in the book – there are a lot of nervous A-listers,” an insider told the publication at the time.

“Strongly worded legal letters have been sent to the publishers by people who know Britney and who fear what she has written.”
