Brand new racecourse expert predicts will be a ‘beauty’ to finally open after council give go-ahead

PLANS have been revealed for a brand new all-weather racecourse one expert predicts will be a ‘beauty’ when it opens.

Council bosses have finally given the go-ahead for work to begin after a lengthy appeals process with local residents.

Breaking news: The planning permission for the new all-weather track at Tipperary has come through a 16-month appeal process and has now been granted. It’ll be a beauty when it’s finished. The planning application process for an all-weather racetrack at Tipperary was originally given the green light in August 2022.

But residents appealed against it the following month and a lengthy bureacratic process stifled dreams of development.

It’s now full steam ahead, however, after a panel decision ruled the new six-furlong oval track can be built.

ITV Racing pundit Kevin Blake posted a photo of the plans and wrote on X: “The planning permission for the new all-weather track at Tipperary has come through a 16-month appeal process and has now been granted.

“It’ll be a beauty when it’s finished.

“Six-furlongs on a very slight dogleg and a widened round track.”

Tipperary, in Munster, Ireland, already has a turf racecourse that hosts Flat and National Hunt racing.

But this new course will be able to host meetings at night, making it the second track in Ireland after Dundalk to host evening racing.

Andrew Hogan, manager of Tipperary racecourse, told the Racing Post: “It’s great news.

“We’ll have to sit down next week with Horse Racing Ireland and review everything to decide when work can commence. It will be brilliant for Tipperary.

“We have to make a plan now and hopefully get the wheels in motion.

“It’s still the case that racing won’t go ahead while the work is under way. There’s still a bit of red tape to go through, but it’s very positive news and we’re delighted.”
