Mayweather recently splashed out $1m on a new gold chain before his recent exhibition fight at The 02 against Aaron Chalmers.
The former five-weight world champion, who retired with a 50-0 record, found himself in the spotlight again last week as he attended Gervonta Davis’ victory over Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas.
Mayweather caught the eye by flaunting his epic headpiece as speculation mounted that the hat was worth a cool million bucks.
However, the American has now taken to Instagram to dispute that fact, although he admitted it still cost him a fortune.
Sharing a picture of himself wearing the cap, he wrote: “I don’t know who started the rumor that my hat was a million dollars but it was 30k.
“30k is still pricey for a SnapBack.”
One fan responded to his revelation by saying: “30k on a hat is insane.”
Another wrote: “Why on earth will a hat cost 30k? Why? Was it made from pure gold or what?”
While another said: “That didn’t make me feel any better.”
The diamond-encrusted hat was created by Los Angeles-based celebrity jeweller Shuki Diamonds.
And he recently revealed that it took over one month to make as he had to source “invisible diamonds” to complete the headpiece.
He says the process involved creating a mould, sandblasting it, and then polishing it before he gave it to Mayweather for free.
And he now says that, regardless of its actual worth, he believes he could sell the headgear for $5m at an auction.”There’s only one in the world,” Diamonds told TMZ. “It’s become historical – it’s Floyd Mayweather.”
