The trainer says none of his clients are obsessing over calorie counting.

Instead, he focuses on making sure they eat healthy foods — and enough of them to have energy to exercise.

In a post on Instagram, Don said: “Sometimes, eating clean isn’t enough. Sometimes you’re going to have to bump your calories and consume more.

“If you’re going to start doing a lot more activity, you’re going to have to eventually bump up your calories.

“If you’re eating clean but you’re not eating enough calories, you’re going to start feeling a bit different.

“You’re going to feel a bit flat, your energy level begins to diminish and you’ll even notice that your sleep starts diminishing.”

He continued: “Take note, when you’re doing more exercise, you’re running more, training, more you’re going to need to eat more calories.

“I find when I do that, my body actually starts to look better, because it’s fuller, it’s tighter, it’s more energetic.”

Another top tip from the fitness fanatic concerns how much water you are drinking.

He said: “Hydration is one of the most important aspects of fitness and health — as well as just staying alive.

“If you’re looking to feel better, look better, and live better, one of the first places I would start is making sure your hydration is under control.

“My recommendation is always to get 1/2 your bodyweight (lbs) in oz of water per day. It helps to get 1/4 of that in the morning.”

But if you want to start eating more nutritious foods to meet your fitness goals, Don encourages you to start slow.

If you’re used to skipping breakfast or only eating one-to-two meals a day, jumping into a meal plan of lots of small healthy dishes is going to be too far a leap.

Instead, try building up with one extra meal early on, that will keep you feeling fuller and less likely to snack or gorge on unhealthy dinners later in the day.

Don said: “Let’s start with something light in the morning, maybe add a healthy snack throughout the day.

“Once you get into that habit, once you see that progress and your body starts learning these new patterns, you will feel more energised and motivated.

“Then it becomes easier to transition to the next step of adding more meals and more powerful foods.”
