Seinfeld star Julia Louis-Dreyfus has opened up about her battle with stage two breast cancer, which she was diagnosed with in 2017.
The actress, 62, told WSJ. Magazine about the moment she received a call from her doctor with her initial diagnosis, saying she burst out laughing before ”hysterically crying”.
Her diagnosis came after winning an Emmy Award in September that year, and she said it felt like she was in a ”horrible black comedy”. She was cleared of the disease in October 2018.

“I mean, it felt like it was written. It felt like it was a horrible black comedy,” she said.
“And then it sort of morphed into crying hysterically.”
The star was declared cancer free in 2018 after having six rounds of chemotherapy and a double mastectomy.
She said that now, five years on, she’s trying to “live more mindfully”.

“I started laughing. Well, because the night before, I had won an Emmy. And so, I came downstairs and… the Emmy was there. It was like on the dining room table. I’m coming down to get coffee. My cell phone rings, and it’s my doctor saying, ‘Guess what, you have cancer,’ ” she said, according to People.
“And I’m like, ‘Huh? What?’ And so, it was a very bizarre juxtaposition,” she added.
After being five years cancer free, she added: “I’m just so happy to be here, you know.”
When she announced she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, the star wrote on Twitter, now known as X: “1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one.”
“The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends,” she added.
“The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.”
Louis-Dreyfus received the diagnosis the day after she won her record sixth Emmy for her role as former VP-turned-president Selina Meyer on the HBO comedy Veep.
After her second round of chemotherapy, she wrote on Instagram: “Chemo #2: finito. We are NOT f–king around here.”
“I’ve got the eye of the tiger. The Fighter dancing through the fire cuz I am a champion and you’re going to hear me ROAR.”
