“We can confirm Billie and Jesse did split amicably and remain good friends,” the Ocean Eyes singer’s representative confirmed to Us Weekly on May 17. “All cheating rumours are false. Both are currently single.”
Eilish and The Neighbourhood frontman were first linked back in October, 2022 after being snapped around Los Angeles together.
However, the relationship and the 11-year age gap quickly drew heavy criticism from fans.

This was further exacerbated when Eilish confirmed the news of their relationship by posting a number of Halloween snaps in which Rutherford was curiously dressed as an old man and Eilish as a baby.
“Life is craaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy🤡 happy halloween🎃🥰,” Eilish wrote alongside the post.
The post quickly garnered stern backlash from fans who felt that the singer was making light of concern around the age gap in her relationship.
”Last slide is interesting babe…,” one fan wrote under the post.
“Girl wisen up, this isn’t a joke. Why isn’t he with someone his own age? Just think about it. It’s weird, not quirky,” another wrote.
“*writes a song about age and power dynamics* *makes fun of it with a Halloween costume*,” another fan wrote, seemingly in reference to her hit Your Power, which Eilish has previously said is an “open letter” to those that “abuse power dynamics”.

Fans also took their concerns to Eilish’s brother and creative partner, however, he insisted his sister was old enough to make her own decisions.
“I want my sister to be happy and safe,” he wrote in the comments section of a TikTok video. “And she is a 21 year old adult perfectly entitled to make her own life decisions.”
