Best games to play with your children during the holidays

WHILE outdoor activities are fun, when the weather turns, as it often does in winter, you might find yourself and your children stuck indoors.

However, this doesn’t have to mean you will find your kids climbing the walls, there are a number of ways to keep them entertained.

Gaming is a great option, and it will help build their reactions and problem-solving, as well as help you develop a bond with your brood.

Here are the games we recommend to play with your children when it’s cold outside.

Fall Guys

Not only does Fall Guys have the benefit of being free to play, but it is also a lot of wholesome fun.

A bit like It’s A Knockout, you play as uncontrollable beans, as they make their way through soft play-style obstacles.

It’s multiplayer, meaning you can play together at home as well as online, and you can turn off voice chat to keep your child safe.

The rounds are quick, keeping children’s attention, and the competitive nature will keep you hooked.

If you don’t let them win, you will build up their resilience, and eventually their satisfaction when they beat you.

Minecraft

Minecraft has the advantage that children adore it, and it has a creative sensibility that helps them build new skills.

You can use different blocks to build anything you can imagine in a world together with your child.

If your kid has a Minecraft world already set up, then it’s even better, as you can ask them to give you a special tour of everything they’ve achieved.

You can even have your child explain to you how to build things in Minecraft, and give them the sense of achievement they can only only be gained through teaching others.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

This is a more traditional game that can still offer a lot of value to you and your child.

There is a co-op mode where you can help each other with parts of the game you can’t figure out.

This means that no puzzle is impossible to overcome as the pair of you tackle all the problems in your path.

It also has an interesting hubworld, with relaxing mini-games where you can compete to catch the biggest fish, or dish out food the fastest.

Rocket League

Rocket League is another game that you will want to turn off chat before you play online, but you can also just play in small groups.

Children love physics-based games, which is why Fall Guys is also popular, and the way that the cars ‘kick’ the ball in Rocket League can be a lot of fun.

Again if your kid is already into Rocket League, have them show you their skills and teach you how to play.

If they are into cars or footballs, this is one they will find difficult to put down.

Goat Simulator 3

Goat Simulator mostly exists as silly fun, and this entry adds to the formula by including multiplayer.

The pair of you (or more) can play as goats causing havoc throughout the town, as you try and solve the game’s many puzzles.

Or you can take the opposite approach, and just lick things and see how far you can throw them.

If you want to see what happens when you put a jetpack on a goat, in a fun and safe way of course, then this is the game for you.
