Bella Hadid splits from boyfriend and reveals real reason for four-month absence

Bella Hadid has split from her boyfriend of two years, amid reports the supermodel is on medical leave for Lyme disease treatment.

Hadid, 26, and her art director boyfriend, Marc Kalman, went public with their relationship in 2021, but he broke things off a few months ago.

The same day the news broke of their breakup, a source revealed to ET that Hadid is in daily treatment for Lyme disease.

This comes after outlets reported Hadid had entered rehab for alcohol addiction, sparked by her absence from Paris Fashion Week.

“Bella is taking some much deserved time off to treat her Lyme disease. She is not in rehab and has never had an alcohol or drug problem,” a source told ET.

The star actually quit drinking in 2022, celebrating five months sober earlier this year.

The model was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012.

It is a bacterial infection transmitted to humans through tick bites, with symptoms including fever, headache, fatigue, and a rash. If left untreated, the infection can spread to joints, the heart, and the nervous system.

Her brother, Anwar, and mother, Yolanda, also suffer from Lyme disease.

Hadid’s absence from Fashion Week and other work-related events reportedly comes down to both her break-up and her diagnosis.

Hadid and Kalman “were very in love, but the relationship ultimately ran its course and they decided to end things. Bella is a very nice person, but struggles with the pressures of fame. She has been trying to take care of herself since their split,” a source said.

In the past, Hadid has been very open about what it’s like living with Lyme disease, and receiving daily treatments. “Living with a few chronic auto immune disorders =always finding time for my IVs,” she captioned a photo of her getting her hair done while hooked up to an IV.

During a 2017 interview with PORTER magazine, she recalled a time when she “couldn’t get out of bed for six days.”
