Barn-find Jaguar E-Type to sell for huge sum after it ‘gathered dust for a decade’ – it could be worth A LOT more

A JAGUAR that sat “gathering dust” in boxes for over a decade is tipped to sell for a huge sum – and could be worth even more.

THE 1967 E-Type Coupe is one of the most sought-after models from the iconic British brand.

This particular car was discovered in a barn new Crewkerne, Somerset, having been imported back from California around a decade earlier.

It comes with its original engine and gearbox, as well as brand new but period-appropriate carburettors and wire wheels.

The timed sale is being run by Humbert and Ellis, an auction house based in Northamptonshire.

The current bid stands at £20,000, while it is estimated to reach up to £38,000.

Amazingly, they estimate that, once it’s road-ready, it could be worth a staggering £90,000 in the right condition.

However, it may need some fairly substantial restoration work beforehand.

Photos attached to the listing show that the car is in bits, with only the back end of the bodywork assembled.

The front half of the chassis is completely bare, with only the metal frame and wheels in place.

All the original parts are provided but will require significant time and a fair bit of money to restore to their former glory.

Many components are badly rusted and may need to be replaced, while the paintwork has faded drastically.

Not only that, but it may be a challenge to actually get hold of the thing given its current state.

Since it’s a non-starter, it would need to be collected from its barn by the winning bidder.

A Humbert & Ellis spokesperson said: “It is very rare to find a rolling chassis like this with the majority of parts.

“It comes with its original reconditioned engine, gearbox, brand new triple carburettors, new boxed wire wheels, a bonnet, windows, seats, rear screen, light lenses and most ancillary parts.”

The auction concludes on January 3

It comes after a superbike once owned by James May went up for sale this week – but there was an unfortunate catch which may put people off.
