Back in Action! First look at Cameron Diaz’s new role opposite Jamie Foxx after quitting acting

Cameron Diaz is making her big acting comeback this year, after taking a break from her career for almost ten years.

The American star, 51, is set to star in Netflix’s new comedy and action film called Back in Action, which also co-stars Jamie Foxx.

In a new trailer for the upcoming shows and films on Netflix in 2024, the duo are seen playing a pair of married spies, who are forced to return back into espionage after their identities are discovered.

“What if mum and dad are criminals?” their onscreen daughter says in the clip.

“We were spies,” Diaz replies, as she gets into a fight with an enemy.

“The next iconic duo,” Netflix described Diaz and Foxx in the clip.

This marks Diaz’s first film since 2014’s Annie.

In 2014, at the height of her fame and after starring in hits such as Charlie’s Angels, My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Holiday and There’s Something About Mary, she called it quits from acting.

The star came out of retirement in 2022 after nearly a decade away from the screen to film the upcoming comedy.

While there was talk of a rift between the co-stars, The Holiday actress put to rest rumours Foxx was ”making everything miserable” and that she “was never gonna make another movie again because of him”.

“I really hate all the things that were being said about our set, which at the time you just want to scream at the top of your lungs like, ‘Guys! What are you talking about?'” she said during an appearance on Molly Sims’ Lipstick on the Rim podcast.

“Jamie is like the cheerleader for the entire crew and everybody loves him, and we have so much fun on the set with him. And he’s just a professional on every level.”

Diaz told host Molly Sims that Foxx “is the best, I love that guy so much.”

“He’s such a special person, and he’s so talented, so much fun.”

The actress told Sims that the set experience was “great” and the “hiccups that happened throughout production” were nothing out of the ordinary, adding that the rumours of a rift “really made me angry.”

One recent sit-down was with fellow actress and friend Gwyneth Paltrow, during which Diaz explained she was tired of slaving away for studios and wanted to prioritise her health and wellbeing during her break.

“I got a peace in my soul, because I finally was taking care of myself,” she said on Paltrow’s health podcast …In Goop Health in 2019.

“It’s a strange thing to say, I know a lot of people won’t understand it, I know you understand it, but it’s so intense to work at that level and be that public and put yourself out there. There’s a lot of energy coming at you at all times when you’re really visible as an actor and doing press and putting yourself out there.”

The two actors were working on Back in Action, which began filming in December 2022, when Foxx, 56, suffered an unspecified “medical complication” in April 2023.

Late last year, he appeared at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema and Television: Honouring Black, Latino and AAPI Achievements, and spoke about his health battle during an acceptance speech.

“I’ve been through something. I’ve been through some things. You know, it’s crazy, I couldn’t do that six months ago. I couldn’t actually walk,” Foxx said.

He added in part of his speech: “I have a new respect for life. I have a new respect for my art.”
