Fall weather remains halted in the eastern third of the U.S. due to a blocking pattern causing warmer-than-average temperatures, but cooler weather is expected soon.
Highs are forecast to be 15 to 25 degrees above average for the majority of the region once again Wednesday, the FOX Forecast Center said.
In the Northeast, after what has seemed like a nearly endless stretch of damp and cooler over the past two weeks, it’s a brief return to summer with highs in the low-mid 80s. Much of the Great Lakes is also basking in the 80s.
But the 80s are on their way out.
“You’re thinking, ‘all right, I’ve got to keep the short sleeves handy,'” FOX Weather meteorologist Craig Herrera said. “But standby with the hoodies. You’re going to need those as we go into the end of the week for sure.”
Ushering in the change is a pair of cold fonts. The first front is associated with an ongoing fall storm that will send temperatures plunging Thursday, before a second reinforcing shot will keep temperatures dropping into the weekend.
“This is the type of day when you watch the front come, and you can see the temperatures tumble right behind it,” Herrera said. “I love to watch this over the Plains and that’s what you’ll be seeing.”
Here’s a look at the forecast high temperatures for the next five days across the nation.
