Australia’s biggest Taylor Swift fan debunks a huge rumour: ‘I’ve heard this many a time’

Nine’s resident Taylor Swift expert, Jemima Skelley, has spoken with 2GB’s Ben Fordham ahead of the Australian Eras Tour to let Swifties know what to expect.

“I am freaking out, we are in the same country as Taylor Swift, this is so exciting,” she said answering Fordham’s call live on air.

Last year, Jemima flew to the US to catch the Eras Tour, fearing that even if Swift did bring her show to Australia the ticket demand would be too high, and she wasn’t willing to risk missing out.

She managed to snag a seat at a total of eight shows in the US, and has now shared with Fordham that she’ll also be attending in Australia.

“I’m going to all four of her Sydney shows,” she shared. “It’s going to be a bit of a marathon weekend, but I can’t wait.”

Fordham then pointed out that “it’s the same show that she just does over and over,” however if you’re a Swiftie, you’ll know that’s not the case.

“I’ve heard this many a time,” said Jemima. “But the energy is different each night, you’re sitting in a different spot, she sings different surprise songs, you know, it’s a different experience.”

And she’s so right.

For those unaware, each night at the Eras Tour is actually a different show, because when Swift takes to the acoustic section to play two new surprise songs, you never know what’s going to happen.

There’s also the potential that she could make some huge announcement (We’re looking at you, August 9 in California when 1989 TV was announced), so if you can, it’s only reasonable to want to attend as many times as possible.

And then there’s just the added bonus of being in Taylor Swift’s presence multiple nights in a row because, as Jemima puts it, “she’s a god among us.”

Explaining to Fordham why the superstar has such a cult following, Jemima said: “She writes amazing songs, she’s obviously insanely talented, she cares about her fans, she puts on her show and comes back every night with so much energy, and she just creates a special atmosphere for everybody who’s there.

“There’s 100,000 people there and everyone is having the time of their life.”

The Swift mega-fan also pointed out that there’s a real sense of camaraderie at the Eras Tour, mainly due to the tradition of making and swapping friendship bracelets.

“The friendship bracelets are a huge part of the Eras Tour, ” she said. “It’s actually a really nice way to get to know the people who are in the seat next to you, maybe you can trade some bracelets, put your favourite song or your favourite lyrics on there. It’s cute, it’s very special.”

Now, it’s no secret that Eras Tour tickets don’t come easy or cheap, so you may be wondering, how much does it cost to actually attend all four shows in Sydney and how on earth do you secure so many tickets.

Well Fordham was wondering the same thing.

After being asked how she managed to pull it off, Jemima explained that she simply got “really lucky” in the Ticketek lottery, and while her most expensive seat was around $1200 for VIP, she also managed to secure a spot in the nose bleeds for around $150.

So it all evens out in the end.
