ASDA has cut the price of its fuel by up to 5.5p per litre across its 320 sites.
In the last two days, the major supermarket has slashed an average of 4.5p off for petrol and around 5.5p off for diesel.
Asda has dropped fuel prices by up to 5.5p per litreAlamy
This means that Asda is now charging around 153.5p for petrol and 176.7p for diesel.
It comes as the RAC had previously called on supermarkets to pass falling petrol prices onto consumers.
The move has seen the supermarket’s prices drop to 2p less than its rivals, says the RAC.
RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said: “While we’re pleased one major supermarket retailer has finally started heeding our calls to pass on the enormous drop in the wholesale prices of both fuels, the fact these price cuts have been made so quietly is surely admission that they should have come much sooner.”
The company is urging other supermarkets to “catch up quickly” in order to offer drivers some “much-needed relief” from high costs.
Asda says that it has been slowly dropping it prices over the past four weeks and last night the price per litre for unleaded dropped by 2p and by 3p for diesel.
A spokesperson for Asda said: “Asda is the price leader in the supermarket fuel sector and we remain focused on providing our customers with the best value at the pumps.”
The exact amount that Asda charges for its fuel will vary by location so do check yours before you fill up.
You can find your nearest Asda filling station by using the locator tool on its website.
We have reached out to other major supermarkets to ask if they will be dropping their fuel prices and will update this story when we hear back.
According to latest Government figures, the average price of petrol is 159.20p this week, and for diesel, it’s 183.56p.
The price of unleaded petrol peaked at a record high of 191.53p in July and has slowly fallen back down.
Meanwhile, diesel is down from 199.07p in July.
But these are average prices and what you pay depends on the station you head to.
Plus, unleaded and diesel prices are still up by at least 20p a litre compared to November last year.
It means the pressure is on for motorists to find cheap diesel and unleaded – but there are ways to find the best prices.
You should always shop around to find the best deal near you as you could save yourself a few pounds.
