Ascot racegoers swap heels for flip-flops as they stumble home from the third day of the races

ASCOT racegoers were pictured swapping heels for flip-flops as they stumbled home from the third day of the races.

Earlier today, lucky ticket holders arrived to soak up the atmosphere and brought glitz and glamour on Ladies’ Day.

Ladies are required to wear “formal daywear”, meaning dresses have to fall just above the knee and straps need to one inch or wider.

Ascot guests were snapped wearing stunning outfits boasting a rainbow of colours today, as they made the most of the sunshine in Berkshire.

But having made it past security in high heels this morning, racegoers were pictured giving their feet a break as they left the premises in flip flops.

With the drinks flowing and revellers celebrating their wins, racegoers loosened up as they larked about in good spirits.

Many savvy women were snapped ditching their high heels in favour of sensible flat shoes to travel home in.

The strict racegoing clothing policy seemed to have been done away with as one woman in a yellow dress was seen exiting in flip flops with the help of her pal.

Others were pictured wearing flat footwear with their heads in their hands after an exciting day of boozing.

And the races proved to be too much for one barefooted female fan – who had to be carried home over one man’s shoulder.

For the third day in a row, Royal couple Zara and Mike Tindall enjoyed a date day at the races.

Dressed to impress, the pair were all smiles as they took time out of their busy schedules.

Meanwhile, The King and Queen Camilla were seen cheering wildly in the Royal Box as they saw 18-1 outsider Desert Hero win the £50,000 King George V Stakes.

The monarch had a tear in his eye as he watched the horse he inherited from his late mother spring a huge shock on day three.

Meanwhile, I’m a Celebrity star Georgia Toffolo and Good Morning Britain‘s Charlotte Hawkins returned for the second day running.

Georgia wore a red and white floral number, while Charlotte opted for a bright blue dress, with perfectly matching shoes and a bow hat.

Elsewhere, model and actress Sabrina Elba – who is married to Brit actor Idris Elba – was the picture of elegance in a chic, all-white ensemble.

As in previous years, Ascot attendees have to adhere to the strict dress-code issued by the venue.

This includes the fact that all dresses should be a “modest length” and straps are required to be “one inch or greater”.

But guests have still been impressing in the style stakes, with many dressed to the nines for the fun day out.
