Instead Paul Heckingbottom’s side wore their third kit – a white top with white shorts and red socks.
But it caused issues for viewers watching on TV as it was difficult to differentiate the two teams.
Fans complained that Sheffield United were allowed to wear their alternative kit when their yellow strip would have been more suitable.
One said: “Terrible away colours Sheffield at Arsenal. As a viewer, hard to differentiate between the two teams. Don’t they have a third kit which contrasts?”
Another added: “Arsenal and Sheffield kits are too close I can’t tell anyone apart.”
A third wrote: “Horrible kit clash in this Arsenal game lol. Unwatchable.”
And another commented: “Whoever approved the Arsenal
and Sheffield kits is clearly colour blind.”
However the players had no such problems, certainly not the Gunners who took the lead through Eddie Nketiah.
