Arsenal star Matt Turner completes £10m Nottingham Forest move with rival Premier League keeper lined up to replace him

MATT TURNER said he is grateful to Steve Cooper for making him feel part of Nottingham Forest’s “family”.

And he then prepared for a speedy return to face the Arsenal brothers he’s just been separated from.

The 29-year-old USA international completed his £7million move to the City Ground – plus £3million in potential add-ons – but faces a rapid return to his former Emirates home for Saturday’s lunchtime showdown between the clubs.

Turner, who penned a four-year-deal, is keen to establish himself as Forest’s first-choice before Cooper pushes through a move for Manchester United‘s Dean Henderson, whose injury niggle has delayed his return.

The American, who played four World Cup ties for the USA in Qatar last season, said: “It feels great to be here, it’s a great challenge and a great step in my career.

“When I heard that there was interest to bring me here, it just felt right for my family and it feels like the right move for me right now.

“The manager and the backroom staff, everything about the club has a little sparkle to it. It’s felt right from the start.

“I’m looking forward to making a connection with my team-mates, the fans and the city.

“I’m grateful to be here and can’t wait to get things started.”

Arsenal have already agreed to sign Turner’s replacement and new challenger to No1 Aaron Ramsdale.

The Gunners are closing in on a deal for Brentford star David Raya.

The 27-year-old will undergo a medical at the club’s London Colney training centre this week ahead of completing a move to the Emirates.

Raya is expected to sign a five-year contract.

The Brentford man had just a year left to run on his current deal and had been subject to interest from both Bayern Munich and Tottenham.
