Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus decided to quit Man City on phone call with his mum after Pep Guardiola made him cry

ARSENAL star Gabriel Jesus has revealed that he decided to quit Manchester City after Pep Guardiola made him cry.

The Brazilian had to phone his mum, Vera, as he was left devastated when he found out he was not playing in a crucial Champions League tie.

Jesus was named on the bench for City’s group stage clash with Paris Saint-Germain in November 2021.

The striker was subbed on and scored the winner as the game ended 2-1.

But he told the Denilson Show podcast it was at that point he decided he wanted to leave the club.

Jesus said: “There was a Champions League game, PSG at home, in which he put [Oleksandr] Zinchenko as a false nine. Crazy thing.

“The day before, he didn’t even use [Zinchenko] in training, he had put me in as a striker.

“Zinchenko even joked with me: ‘That day I felt bad for you.’

“Two hours before the game, there’s a team talk, the team eats, rests for 30 minutes and goes to the game. He told us the team, I didn’t even eat.

“I went straight to the room, crying, I called my mother to talk: ‘I want to leave.’

“I’m going home, because he put [Zinchenko] on and he didn’t put me on. He put a left-back there. I went crazy.

“There was a lot of that with him [Guardiola] and it’s not easy. It is really hard.

“That’s when I decided, I didn’t want to stay anymore and I decided to leave.”

Jesus also explained that despite his impact off the bench he still did not play in the next big European fixture versus RB Leipzig.

The 26-year-old spent five-and-a-half years at Man City and scored 95 goals for the club.

He won four Premier League titles before leaving for Arsenal last summer.

Jesus netted 11 goals in 33 games in his first season with the Gunners after overcoming knee surgery that ruled him out for months after the World Cup.
