Arsenal fans rage that Ramsdale is ‘doing a De Gea impression’ as howler gifts Southampton lead after just 27 SECONDS

SOUTHAMPTON took a shock 1-0 lead at league leaders Arsenal courtesy of a gift from Aaron Ramsdale.

The Gunners stopper passed it directly to Saints man Carlos Alcaraz as he tried to play out from the back.

And Alacaraz gleefully made Ramsdale pay for his error, composing himself before curling home just 27 SECONDS into the game.

Ramsdale’s team-mates rallied around him following his error, while Mikel Arteta was also seen consoling his keeper.

However, fans trolled the goalie on social media, despite the Arsenal man enjoying a superb season between the sticks.

Ramsdale was compared to Manchester United stopper David De Gea, who endured a tough night in Thursday’s Europa League defeat to Sevilla.

One wrote on Twitter: “Ramsdale doing his best David de Gea impression.”

Another said: “Ramsdale learnt well from De Gea.”

Former Chelsea and West Ham defender Scott Minto said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Aaron Ramsdale clearly didn’t watch David de Gea last night!”

Speaking on Sky Sports’ commentary, Gary Neville said: “Wow, I had flashbacks to David de Gea and Harry Maguire last night, the difference is that got there this didn’t.

“It was telegraphed, what a start to this game, I thought Ramsdale was fantastic at Anfield a few weeks ago, could have done better for second goal v West Ham.

“But that is a very nervy start and has put the team top of the league against the bottom right up against it.”

Ramsdale went some way to redeeming himself by denying Alcaraz with a superb reaction save on 25 minutes.

An incredible start at the Emirates saw former Arsenal man Theo Walcott double Southampton’s lead on 14 minutes leading to Oleksandr Zinchenko to hold an on-pitch inquest.

The Gunners then pulled one back six minutes later as Gabriel Martinelli volleyed home from a Bukayo Saka cross to finish off an excellent team move.
