Are newspapers published over the Christmas bank holiday?

News never stops, so journalists have to be on the go 24/7.

The only day in the year that newspapers aren’t published is Christmas Day in the UK – other than that, daily nationals are printed all year long non-stop.

Most stores are not open on Christmas Day, so there could be a limit on where papers could be sold.

This means that newspapers are published on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year‘s Day.

However, this doesn’t mean that journalists get Christmas Day off.

In fact Christmas Eve is the quietest day as no paper is being produced for the following day.

Newsrooms are busy on Christmas Day producing the edition readers will see in the shops on Boxing Day.

Daily national newspaper are printed on all other days of the year, although some publications choose not to publish on other bank holidays.

Also some papers have a separate Sunday edition.

However, the web never stops and news sites are updated across 365 days of the year keeping readers up to date with the latest news, sport, TV and showbiz, as well as features, travel, motors, money matters, puzzles and more.

Are newspapers delivered over the Bank Holiday?

This depends where you receive your newspapers from.

Papers arrive in stores as normal over the bank holiday – with newspapers delivered as usual.

But it’s best to check with the shop you have the newspaper delivered from to make sure you still receive yours through the letterbox.

Some smaller newsagents might not provide normal deliveries on this day – or the person on your paper round may be taking a well-earned break.

Also, your local supermarket might be closed or have reduced hours for the bank holiday, so you won’t be able to purchase your newspaper from there.
