Are Christina Applegate’s SAG Awards Nails a Nod to “Dead to Me”?

Christina Applegate walked the SAG Awards red carpet hand in hand with her daughter, Sadie Grace LeNoble, on Feb. 26. The mother-daughter pair were dressed in complementary tailored ensembles – Applegate in a navy floor-length dress and LeNoble in a black paint suit – but their looks had another parallel: their unique nail art.

Applegate wore white nails filed into a rounded-square shape. An abstract design that mimicked swirling blue smoke was added to each fingertip – perhaps as a nod to her role as Jen Harding on Netflix’s “Dead to Me.” Applegate was nominated for best performance by a female actor in a comedy series, and the nail art appeared to draw inspiration from the show’s poster. Celebrity manicurist Vanessa Sanchez McCullough created the manicure for Applegate using CND World products. For the base, she used Studio White ($10), and for the swirling pattern, she combined Powerful Hematite ($7) and Sassy Sapphire ($11). Similar to her mom, LeNoble had black nails with a swirly silver design on each finger.

This isn’t the first time the actor has used nail art to send a message. At her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in November 2022, she wore an “FU MS” manicure in reference to her multiple sclerosis diagnosis, which she first shared in August 2021. Then, at the Critics Choice Awards in January 2023, Applegate honored her friendship with costar Linda Cardellini with nail stickers that read “Jen” and “Judy,” their “Dead to Me” characters. Both of those manicures were also by Sanchez McCullough.

According to an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the 2023 SAG Awards will likely be the last award show we see Applegate at as an actor as she’s taking a break from the spotlight.

Take a closer look at Applegate’s nails and her red carpet moment with her daughter at the 29th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ahead.
