Anthony Joshua and Jermaine Franklin’s lifestyles compared, with Brit worth £120m and roofer rival filing for bankruptcy

Their contrasting lifestyles add to to the intrigue the fight brings.

AJ, who is believed to have a £120million fortune, lives a life of luxury – like a sporting god would – boasting nice cars, expensive jewellery, designer threads and more.

While American fighter Franklin is on the opposite end of the scale – a modest family man with a reported net worth of just £500,000.

Should he win, he could treble his career earnings with a reported £1million purse for the upcoming bout.

It could change Franklin’s life forever. Here’s how their riches compare.

CARS

When it comes to motors, AJ certainly has the upper hand on his rival.

Thanks to his partnership with Jaguar Land Rover – which is rumoured to be worth £790,000 a year – AJ rolls round London in his choice of a fleet of luxury wheels, including a customised white Jaguar XJR, worth £93,000.

It’s a step-up from his first car, a £1,500 Vauxhall Astra.

His favourite motor is his personalised black Range Rover, which he says “looks very professional and sets a standard”.

Franklin, who hails from Saginaw, Michigan doesn’t boast a car collection to envy, that we can see from his social media.

However, we caught a glimpse of a £30,000 Chrysler 300 in the backdrop of his training camp.

Through Under Armour, AJ gets use of the company jet.

Showing the interior of the £45million black G550 ahead of his trip to the States to face Ruiz for the first time, AJ said: “These type of things aren’t ordinary, in my daily life and in many other people’s daily lives, so it’s a blessing.

“However, my view is even though I enjoy it and the door has been opened for me, I can’t forget to open the door for people who have come with me and the people who aren’t in a position to enjoy this type of luxury.

“I never get too lost in the source and get carried away with these types of things.”

BANKRUPTCY

It was only three years ago that Franklin filed for bankruptcy.

When he was forced out of the ring because of the Coronavirus pandemic, he turned to working with a roofing company.

Times were hard – gruelling night shift hours meant training on his days-off, in-between taking his kids to school, was even harder.

His phone was dead. Franklin said he would have fought anyone, anywhere.

“I would have done a rinky-dink show for a couple of hundred dollars,” he told The U.S. Sun.

“But there was nothing.”

However, a fight against Dillian Whyte got him out of his hole.

“I was at work when I got the call,” Franklin admitted.

“I said to my guy ‘Are you for real?’ He said he was and would call me back in hour.

“He was telling the truth. I quit my job right then and there.”

In 2020, Franklin was forced to park boxing and took up a job at a roofing company because of the Covid-19 pandemic

HOME

Anthony came from humble beginnings on a council estate in Watford.

He bought his mum, Yeta Odusanya her council flat in north London for a mere £185,000 in 2013.

AJ did spend a portion of his hard-earned winnings on a rented property in a north London mansion while he was training for the Wladimir Klitschko fight.

According to a report, the mansion near Lord’s Cricket Ground was worth £27million. It belonged to South African diamond trader Walter Hennig, and cost AJ around £20,000 per month.

It has been reported his property portfolio includes a £1million property in north London, as well as three homes in Watford totalling £1.5million.

AJ also bought a £500,000 penthouse in north London, for his ex-girlfriend and JJ’s mum, Nicole Osbourne, despite them splitting.

Like Joshua, Franklin grew up modestly.

When he was still a child growing up in the deprived-but-proud city of Saginaw, he moved into live with his grandmother Bernice, helping her around the home as she struggled with mobility.

Proud of his home, Franklin still lives in Saginaw.

FASHION AND JEWELLERY

In terms of fashion and personal appearance, Franklin scrubbed up well in a smart suit in one image on Instagram.

But it doesn’t compare to AJ – who is sponsored by Hugo Boss and seen wearing the height of fashion.

And when it comes to jewels, again Joshua is streets ahead.

Anthony does own a £350,000 watch. Custom-designed for the 6ft 6in superstar by Audemars Piguet, it’s made of gold and studded with diamonds.

In the past, Joshua has spoken before about how it’s the most lavish thing he owns.

He also owns a Marvel-themed Audemars Piguet worth £120,000.

Should Franklin be the victor in south-east London, maybe it will be his turn to enjoy the high-life.
