Andrew Flintoff welcomed back by Piers Morgan after returning to cricket nine months on from near-fatal Top Gear crash

PIERS MORGAN welcomed Andrew Flintoff back to cricket nine months after his horror 130mph Top Gear smash.

Flintoff worked with England stars ahead of their clash with New Zealand at Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens.

Wearing a bucket hat and sunglasses, “Freddie” Flintoff helped England’s coaching staff.

The 2005 Ashes hero suffered facial injuries and broken ribs in the horrifying 130mph crash while filming Top Gear nine months ago.

He was airlifted to hospital where he would spend five weeks before quitting the BBC show.

Posting a picture of Flintoff sat next to Ben Stokes, cricket fan and SunSport columnist Piers Morgan tweeted: “Brilliant to see Freddie @flintoff11 back with the England team today, after that horrendous Top Gear car smash.”

And Piers wasn’t the only star thrilled to see Flintoff back on a cricket pitch.

His 2005 team-mate Kevin Pietersen wrote, alongside six heart emojis: “Freddie BACK!!!!”

And David Lloyd added: “Really , really pleased ! Great to have him back in the game.”

England’s Barmy Army tweeted: “We’re sure we speak on behalf of the cricketing world in saying how amazing it was to see Flintoff in Cardiff yesterday around the team after his accident.”

According to the Mail, it remains unclear if Flintoff will resume his successful television career.

The former England favourite has recent helped coach his country’s Under-19 team.

While he has also received encouraging words from England managing director Rob Key.

One-day captain Jos Buttler has been thrilled to have Flintoff back.

He said: “He’s a legend and it’s great to have him around.”
