Amir Khan had gun pointed in his face by armed robber demanding ‘take off the watch’ as £71k timepiece stolen

BOXER Amir Khan had a gun pointed in his face by an armed robber who stole his £71,000 watch, a court heard today.

The ex-boxing world champ was eating with his wife Faryal and pal Omar Khalid at Sahara Grill in Leyton, East London, when he was targeted.

Snaresbrook Crown Court heard how an armed robber ran at Khan with a gun and demanded: “Take off the watch”.

He then swiped the bespoke Franck Muller wristwatch, which has an estimated value of between £70,000 to £100,000.

Mum-of-three Faryal was close behind her husband when he had the weapon pointed at his head.

Jurors were told Dante Campbell has previously admitted to being the gunman.

He jumped in a silver Mercedes, which was allegedly driven by Ahmed Bana, with a man who is yet to be located.

His co-defendants Nurul Amin and Ismail Mohamed worked as “spotters” during the raid by keeping track of Khan’s movements, it is said.

Prosecutor Philip Evans KC said: “Mr Khalid had parked his car up on the other side of the road and as the Khans left the restaurant, Amir stopped briefly to greet some people outside the restaurant who wanted to say hello to him.

“He then proceeded to cross the road with Faryal following a few steps behind him.

“As Mr Khan approached Mr Khalid’s car he looked back to see where Faryal was and the next thing he knew, a man with a gun was running towards him.”

Jurors were shown CCTV of former unified light-welterweight world champion Khan leaving the restaurant and the moment the gunman ran at him.

Amin, Mohamed and Bana deny conspiracy to commit robbery. Bana also denies having an imitation firearm.

The trial continues.
