AMAZON Fire TV Stick owners can unlock 11 live channels and thousands of hours worth of telly with a UK-only app.

While the Fire Stick – and similar gadgets – are known for hosting endless options for on-demand streaming, certain apps offer live TV.

TV Licencing warns you could be prosecuted if they find that you’ve been watching, recording or downloading programmes illegally

These apps even have live TV channel guides, just like your standard aerial based telly.

One example of these apps is UKTV, a UK-only app with all the channels Brits love most, including:

UKTV Play Uncovered

UKTV is available on Fire Sticks and other platforms – such as Samsung smart TVs – as a standalone app.

But the same channels can also be found inside Amazon’s free telly app Freevee and Pluto TV.

UKTV Play Heroes features shows on real-life frontline medics and police, with shows like Emma Willis: Delivering Babies, Inside the Ambulance, 999: Rescue Squad, Special Ops: Crime Squad, and Nurses Down Under.

Alongside Dave’s shows like Taskmaster, QI and Gavin and Stacey, UKTV Play Laughs lures in the comedy lovers with shows like Hypothetical, Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable, Judge Romesh and Comedians Giving Lectures.

UKTV Play Full Throttle is for the thrill seekers and engineering buffs with titles like Bangers & Cash, Yianni: Supercar Customiser, Train Truckers, Impossible Railways, Secrets of the London Underground, and Modern Wheels or Classic Steals.

The broadcasting app throws engineering buffs another bone with UKTV Play Uncovered, home to shows like Abandoned Engineering, Forbidden History, World War 2 From Above and Secret Nazi Bases.

But remember, you will need a TV licence when watching live TV or if you’re accessing BBC iPlayer.

The TV licence currently costs £159 for a year but very soon it’s going up.

From April, it’ll go up to £169.50, which is an increase of £10.50.

What will happen if I’m caught without a TV licence?

TV Licencing warns you could be prosecuted if they find that you’ve been watching, recording or downloading programmes illegally.

The maximum penalty is a £1,000 fine plus any legal costs and/or compensation you may be ordered to pay.
