SKY customers are just realising a remote trick that can make your TV talk to you.
The spoken navigational guidance was initially designed for people with a sight impairment.
It should be noted that to use Voice Guidance, your Sky box must be connected to broadband
But it can be handy for others who may be unsure of how to make an action on their remote, for example, accessing a certain menu.
The feature speaks out items on the screen as you navigate with the remote control on Sky Q, Sky Glass and Sky Stream.
Voice Guidance is available for Sky menus, rails, grids, the TV Guide and the Mini TV Guide, show pages, voice search and on screen messages.
However, it’s not yet available in apps such as Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime.
There are two ways to activate Voice Guidance, you can either: Use your voice remote or say “Hello Sky…” on Sky Glass, or switch it on via the accessibility menu.
Although it should be noted that to use Voice Guidance, your Sky box must be connected to broadband.
“If you’re new to using Voice Guidance, we recommend that you keep hints switched on,” according to Sky.
“Once you’re comfortable in how to get around your Sky Q box, Sky Glass or Sky Stream, you might want to change to ‘Without Hints’.
For example, when you have hints switch on, the TV will let you know the directions to press on the remote.
With hints on, the TV will tell you: “All channels, press up, down, left or right to navigate through the TV Guide.”
With hints off, the TV will simply say: “All channels.”
If the Voice Guidance feature is switched on but not working, experts at Sky have suggested to check that your broadband is working and your Sky Q box, Sky Glass or Sky Stream is connected.
If it’s disconnected or has been disconnected recently, then try turning your Sky Q box, Sky Glass TV or Sky Stream puck off and on again at the mains to re-connect with Voice Guidance.
