All of the stars honoured during the 2024 Oscars ‘In Memoriam’

Some of the most iconic figures from Hollywood were honoured in the Oscars‘ annual In Memoriam segment at the 96th Academy Awards.

Each star was honoured with their name and a brief clip of them playing up on stage, accompanied by a surprise appearance from Andrea Bocelli and his son Mateo Bocelli.

The tributes flashed on the screen, with backup dancers and music playing over the top.

Together the pair sang Con te Partirò (Time to Say Goodbye), paying tribute to the stars, writers, camera operators, crew, journalists, makeup artists and other beloved industry colleagues that we have lost this year.

Among the names included in the tribute were, Friends star Matthew Perry, Harry Potter’s Michael Gambon, Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s André Braugher and Mary Poppins’ Glynis Johns.

The academy also remembered Broadway star Chita Rivera, director Nitin Desai, singer Harry Belafonte, Women in Love star Glenda Jackson and actor Ryan O’Neal.

Full Monty star Tom Wilkinson was also acknowledged alongside filmmaker Alan Arkin and actress Stella Stevens.

TV sitcom star Richard Lewis also remembered, alongside Proud Mary singer Tina Turner and musician Robbie Robertson.

The Academy Awards honoured directors William Friedkin and Norman Jewison in its four-minute In Memoriam segment.

The latest version of Con te Partirò sung by the father-son-duo made its debut at the Oscars, with Andrea Bocelli saying it had a great impact on his discography.

“I think that Time to Say Goodbye is a timeless song,”

In 2021, he told USA Today: “It’s an authentic and inspirational song which doesn’t follow any musical trend, and that’s why people love the song and keep it in their hearts.”
