Both clubs would need to dispatch officials to the Ivory Coast to seal a late deal and the logistics of completing a medical would be near impossible.
Lookman represented England extensively at youth level before switching allegiance to Nigeria in 2022.
He first burst onto the scene as a youngster at Charlton, after joining at the age of 16 from Sunday League side Waterloo.
His impressive performances with the club’s u18s and u21s sides saw him fast-tracked into the Addicks’ first-team.
Lookman was promoted to the Addicks’ first team in 2015 and amassed a total of 12 goals in 49 appearances.
The rising star made a big leap to Everton two years later but struggled with only four goals in 48 matches.
Several Premier League clubs are also on alert ahead of a move for Lookman and could launch bids in the summer.
