A$AP Rocky’s Manicure Is a Tribute to Rihanna’s First Oscar Nomination

Rihanna might not have taken home the Oscar for best original song, but A$AP Rocky made sure she still felt the love. According to his nail artist, Kim Truong, the rapper came in with a very specific vision for his award show manicure, saying he wanted to support Rihanna’s first Oscar nomination “by having an Oscar statue painted on his nail.” On his other hand, Rocky kept the fun designs going with an American flag and stack of $100 bills, similar to the custom jacket he wore at the Super Bowl.

Rihanna’s track “Lift Me Up” from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” was nominated for best original song, but the award ultimately went to “Naatu Naatu” from the film “RRR.” Earlier in the night, Rihanna gave an outstanding performance at the award show, accompanied by gospel singers and a live orchestra. Rocky’s sweet nails ensured that Rihanna had an award to hold onto throughout the night, as he raised his glass to her from the audience.

To achieve Rocky’s detailed Oscars nail art, Truong used a variety of highly pigmented polishes from CND. For the money design, she used the shade “Smile Maker” as the base, and then took a precise nail art brush to draw on darker green details. When it came time to replicate the miniature Oscar trophy, Truong added gold chrome powder to create a realistic metallic effect, using gel polish in the shade “Black Pool” for dimension. Read on to get a closer look at Rocky’s thoughtful Oscars-inspired nail art and see how he’s Rihanna’s biggest fan.
