Man Utd fans celebrate as two huge names dropped for Newcastle clash as supporters say ‘we’ve already won’

However, amid their struggles this season – compounded with a 3-0 thrashing by Manchester City last weekend – a host of Man United stars have come in for criticism.

Star men Fernandes and Rashford are two players who have been the most heavily slammed by fans in recent weeks.

Against Newcastle, Erik ten Hag rotated his starting XI, with the pair dropping to the bench.

And following their less than ideal form, some fans were pleased to see Man United with a new look.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan said: “No Bruno or Rashford. Strong and correct decision making.”

A second said: “No Bruno Rashford letsgooo.”

A third wrote: “We have already won…. With the absence of Rashford and Fernandes, we have won.”

A fourth remarked: “I don’t care if we lose tonight No Rashford or Bruno made my day.”

On the decision to drop them, Ten Hag told Sky Sports: “We always line up a team that is strong enough [to win].

“We have a good squad we can choose [from] – these players deserve to play.”

Fernandes being dropped also comes after Roy Keane called on Ten Hag to strip him of the armband.

SunSport outlined tonight’s captain Casemiro as one potential candidate to replace him should the Dutchman go down this route.

On the Brazilian wearing the armband, Ten Hag said: “He always shows his leadership in every training and every match.

“He is the perfect choice to wear the armband.”
