A nurse said my daughter’s headaches could be due to an incorrect glasses prescription – the truth was far more sinister

A GIRL with a deadly brain tumour is in remission after an eye test led to a life-saving diagnosis.

Bethany Williams, 16, had suffered headaches for months before a nurse suggested they were due to an incorrect glasses prescription.

Bethany Williams, 16, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma after she suffered headaches

An eye test revealed her medulloblastoma.

Bethany had brain surgery and chemotherapy and is now in remission.

Her mum, Jenna, said: “We are so grateful that Bethany got her diagnosis when she did.

“We had no idea that opticians could see things like brain tumours but it saved her life.”

Bethany is planning to study for A levels and then go to university.

Her Specsavers optometrist, Obiora Ogbonna, of Stowmarket, Suffolk said: “I do tests and screenings like I did for Bethany every day.

“To hear that I helped her get a diagnosis but that she is now in remission makes this job so rewarding.

“Situations like Bethany’s highlight how important it is to get regular eye tests, as we were able to identify an issue when we compared her eyes to how they were when she had her last appointment with us.”
