Gwyneth Paltrow shares sliding doors moment that ‘saved’ a woman from 9/11 attack

Gwyneth Paltrow had a true life-imitating-art moment on the day of the 9/11 attacks.

A few years after starring in the 1998 film Sliding Doors, Paltrow had her own ‘what could have been’ incident on September 11, 2001 in New York City.

On The Kyle and Jackie O Show this morning, the actress, 51, revealed one inconsequential interaction she had with a stranger “saved” their life on 9/11.

Jackie O Henderson, 48, played a snippet from her on-stage conversation with Paltrow during her Besties launch event on Friday night, in which the actress shared the ”never told before” story from the day of the terrorist attacks.

According to the Iron Man actress, she had heard the story told from the woman’s perspective years later in an interview.

In the recording, Paltrow shared that the woman had been coming up to the crosswalk just as she turned the corner in her car.

Paltrow said she “slammed on [her] brakes” before telling the woman to cross the street.

“We’re, like, mouthing to each other and she’s like, ‘Sorry’, and I’m like, ‘No, go ahead’,” she said.

The Goop founder said they both attempted to proceed and then came to a stop two more times before Paltrow made an assertive decision.

“And then finally I stopped my car and I was like, ‘You cross the street’, I’m saying to her,” she recalled.

Paltrow said the woman then “ran to the subway and literally missed the train, like in Sliding Doors“.

In the movie, Paltrow’s character’s life takes two very different directions when she either makes it onto a train or misses it by seconds.

The actress then revealed the bombshell piece of information that the woman worked in one of the Twin Towers, which were struck by planes and ultimately collapsed that morning.

“I get chills when I think about it,” Paltrow admitted.

Henderson and Sandilands were both reeling from the story, with Sandilands exclaiming the small interaction had “saved” the woman’s life.

Jackie O agreed, incredulously stating, “It was Gwyneth Paltrow who saved her life.”

The Shakespeare in Love star touched down in Sydney on Friday for the Besties launch event at the Aware Super Theatre that night.

During The Kyle and Jackie O Show segment this morning, Henderson shared an ’embarrassing’ backstage moment between the pair before their on stage interview.

The radio host revealed Paltrow couldn’t believe it when she heard her security had requested she have an unopened water bottle on stage.

“The request was keep it locked in the bottle,” Henderson told her co-host Kyle Sandilands.

Paltrow then apparently overheard Henderson asking for the bottle to be replaced after it was unsealed by a crew member.

“She felt so embarrassed that these kind of requests were coming through on her behalf,” the radio star said.
